Where do I fly in to?

For this tour, you'll need to fly into Calgary International Airport (YYC). We'll pick you up from the arrivals gate and as soon as everyone arrives we'll head straight into the mountains to start our adventure! Book your tickets early!

If you'd prefer to meet us in Banff, we’ll be meeting at the HI Hostel at 7pm on Friday 2nd August (*subject to change).

When should I arrive/leave?

The ideal time to arrive would be 5pm on Friday 2nd August. We won't be able to leave until all flights have arrived, please try to choose a flight that's closest to this time. If you need help figuring it out then we can happily make recommendations! On the final day, you'll also want to be flying out at 3pm at the earliest.

Do I need to bring Cash?

Although breakfast is included, you'll want to bring some cash for extra snacks, drinks, lunches and dinner along the way. In general most businesses take debit/credit card now in Canada, but it never hurts to have some walking around money.

Cancellation Policy?

There is a non-refundable deposit of $500USD payable upon reservation, included in your purchase price. Any cancellations made before July 15 will receive a full refund minus the non-refundable deposit. Cancellations must be made in writing to hello@robintuck.com

Full payment is due immediately to secure your reservation. If you would prefer only to pay the deposit for now, please contact us to arrange payment.

What happens if the weather is terrible?

August is one of the warmest months in Alberta, and typically a lot less wet than the rainiest months (June, followed by July). Weather in the mountains is unpredictable though, and we should expect to see all types of weather, including snow. Most of the sites on our tour will be beautiful regardless of the weather, and if necessary we'll arrange alternative itineraries that are better suited to it.  There's an old saying that goes, "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing", so make sure you bring good gear and you'll have an amazing time.

Insurance

Adequate travel and equipment insurance is an absolute necessity for this trip. Proof of travel/medical insurance must be provided prior to trip commencement, otherwise your place will be forfeited. Equipment insurance is not compulsory but highly recommended.

We recommend World Nomads for reasonably priced travel/health insurance.

I want to buy some camera equipment, what should I buy?

Speaking in generalities, a full frame camera would be of benefit but it’s not a necessity. The cameras that I'd recommend at the moment are the Canon 5D MKIV and the Sony ARiii. These are the top of the line models but any DSLR or mirrorless camera will work fine. 

Lenses - we'll be photographing a lot of wide landscapes, so having a wide angle lens will be extremely beneficial. Wider lenses also make astrophotography easier. Our recommendation would be a general 16-35mm lens, but again it isn’t a necessity. 

For general shooting, a 24-70mm lens is usually ideal, and for wildlife photography or any portrait/product photography you might want to look at a 70-200mm. Check out the following link for the products we use.

If you’re looking for a sharp photo with a strong bokeh, a wide aperture is ideal (f/2.8 or lower). This is also very helpful for astrophotography.

I don't really care about photography? Will I still have fun?

Yes! As we mentioned before, the Rockies is all about getting out and having fun in the outdoors. The trip is designed for you to have an incredible and memorable experience in the most beautiful place in the world, and you'll learn some incredible skills as a HUGE bonus. Camera or no camera, it's going to be epic!  

Is it a good idea to extend my trip?

Definitely! Canada is a vast place and if you can spare the time we'd definitely recommend staying a little longer. As long as you're at the Airport/in Banff at the start of the course, you're free do as you please. Feel free to get in touch if you're looking for ideas!
